College of DuPage will offer a new Associate in Applied Science degree in Data Analytics beginning in fall 2026, preparing students for careers in one of the nation's fastest-growing fields.

Developed in response to employer demand, the degree program will equip students with the skills to collect, analyze, interpret and visualize data to support decision-making across industries. Students will gain experience with tools such as Excel, SQL, Python, PowerBI and Tableau while learning data preparation, statistical analysis and database management.

"Data is the fuel for almost everything we do today, including AI," said Bridget McFarland, COD Computer and Information Science (CIS) instructor. "Every industry relies on data to make smarter decisions, improve outcomes and drive innovation. Our new degree will prepare students with practical, in-demand skills while helping meet the workforce needs of our community."

The degree builds on COD's existing Data Analytics, Database and Business Intelligence Analysis certificates, allowing students to apply certificate coursework toward the associate degree. Students also can earn industry-recognized Microsoft certifications and take advantage of transfer opportunities with four-year institutions.

Demand for data professionals continues to rise. Data-related occupations in northeastern Illinois are projected to grow more than 18% over the next decade, while employment of data scientists nationwide is expected to increase 34% from 2024 to 2034, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

"We're not just teaching students how to analyze data; we're helping them develop the curiosity, critical thinking and confidence to ask better questions, uncover meaningful insights, and solve real-world problems,” said COD CIS Professor Marci Rakestraw.
